Gathering Ingredients:
Lime Juice. You will want to use fresh lime juice for this recipe!
Orange Peel. To make a fabulously fresh orange simple syrup, you will need a few orange peels!
Black Tequila. You can find black colored tequila at most liquor stores. If you are having trouble finding a black colored tequila, you can add a little bit of blackberry juice to your cocktail or use a tiny drop of black food coloring!
Orange Liqueur.
Coarse Black Salt. You can find black salt online, or make your own!
How to Make Midnight Margaritas:
Step One: Run the flesh of a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass. Shake some coarse black salt onto a shallow bowl or plate and dip the rim into the salt until it is coated. Set this aside for now.
Step Two: In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and orange simple syrup. Close the shaker and shake it vigorously for about 10 to 15 seconds.
Step Three: Fill your glass with crushed ice and strain the margarita mixture over the ice. Garnish the glass with a lime wedge and enjoy!
Tips for Crafting the Perfect Midnight Margarita:
Fresh Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice is key to a bright, tangy margarita. Avoid bottled lime juice, as it can make the drink taste flat or overly sour.
Chill the Glasses: For a frosty touch, chill your glasses in the freezer before rimming and pouring the margaritas. It enhances the experience and keeps the drink cold longer.
Customize the Sweetness: If you prefer a slightly sweeter margarita, use more orange simple syrup!
Salt & Sugar Rim: For a truly unique taste, mix the black salt with a bit of black sanding sugar for the rim. This combination enhances both the sweetness of the juice and the tang of the lime.
Experiment with Tequila: A smoky reposado tequila can add depth, while silver tequila offers a cleaner flavor. Choose according to your preference for a margarita that suits your taste.
Serving Suggestions for a Midnight Gathering:
To channel the true Practical Magic vibe, serve these Midnight Margaritas with darkly themed snacks like spiced nuts, charcuterie with blackberries, or a chocolate dessert to complete the midnight mood. This cocktail pairs wonderfully with a cozy, candle-lit setting, a cauldron of popcorn, and a night watching 90’s Witch Movies like Practical Magic, The Craft, and Witches of Eastwick!
